So I'm assuming you all remember how I mentioned I wanted to run a contest this summer: here it is! I know there are plenty of us off for the summer already and those of us still in school only have a short while yet, so I figured I could at least get this up and running.

Your Task

Design me a dragon. Any kind of dragon you'd like; it can have horns, ears, a long tail, a short tail, fur, hair, multiple eyes, claws, paws, whatever you feel like. There are no restrictions on body or morphism or physical form. Dragons come in all sizes and shapes, so feel free to do what you're comfortable with!

There is no restriction on color, either. I don't have any color palette in mind. As you can see, this is a very open-ended design contest. I'm leaving a lot of this up to you, so design your best and make me something wonderful!

Accessories are also up to you. I'd prefer that there isn't an overabundance (ie 10+) but you're more than welcome to include them if you think that they fit.

The Why

What exactly is this for, you ask?

A while ago on neo I was lucky enough to quick-adopt a lovely royalgirl draik by name of Zailu. She's been sitting character-less and design-less for a while now, and a few months ago an idea for her character occurred to me. I'm pretty happy with it, but I haven't been able to come up with a design that fits her, so I'm turning to you guys for help!

The character: Zailu is a witch who works mainly off of willpower and the strength of belief. Can she actually do magic? Yes. Her own willpower and belief in the spell she's doing is what actually gives the magic power; if she didn't believe it would work, it wouldn't, simple as that. The stronger the belief, the stronger the spell. The same goes for those she chooses to help. If they don't believe in the spellwork they're receiving, then it won't work for them. She's a rather secluded individual who lives out in the countryside in a cute but cluttered little cottage and is generally a rather reserved and calm individual. She's possessed of a very strong will, obviously, and a particular set of beliefs in regards to magic and the universe and that sort of thing. She's always more than willing to provide spells for those that make the trek out to her cottage - for a price, of course, which can be anything from a home-cooked meal to the promise of a favor to money.

:star: All entrants will receive a sketch of the character of their choosing! In other words, you get a free sketch just for entering!

Also, all entrants will be put into a raffle for a colored + shaded chibi! Even if you don't place you might still get a cute little chibi out of it.

How Do I Enter?

Simply draw up your design and post a comment with a link in this journal! You aren't required to do anything else. You ARE allowed to enter more than once and will receive a sketch for each entry you submit with a max of three entries!

Don't Want to Enter, But Still Want Art?

If you aren't interested in designing for me but would still like a sketch, you can make a journal / poll / etc advertising this contest. If you link me to it by leaving a comment on this journal I will sketch one of your characters!

Deadline

The deadline is going to be the 18th of July, 2014. This gives you almost two whole months to design and submit an entry (or three!)

Anything Else?

By submitting an entry you are giving me the right to edit it as I please; if I pick yours as a winner, I might want to tweak the colors a bit, change the physiology somewhat, etc, and by entering you are giving me permission to do so! Obviously, huge changes won't be made; why would I chose yours as a winner if I was just going to end up changing it a ton?

If you don't place and I still like your design and want to keep it for future use, I will keep it with the artist's permission.

Even if I don't enter properly, I can still throw some design ideas at you because DESIGNING CHARACTERS IS FUN.
